SLSS Lifesaving Awards

Trainees progress from basic lifesaving lessons to advanced lifeguard training courses, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to prevent, identify, and respond to emergencies in aquatic environments.

The Singapore Life Saving Society SLSS Award Syllabus covers a wide range of lifesaving courses, starting from Basic Lifesaving 123 Awards (LS123), all the way up to the Lifesaving Distinction Award.

To become a certified lifeguard, participants must first enroll in the foundation Lifesaving 123 courses, followed by Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Bronze Medallion course (BM).

Upon successfully completing the Bronze Medallion and CPR courses, trainees will graduate as lifesavers and be eligible for employment as Professional Lifeguards in swimming pools like SportSG.

For those interested in overseeing open waters, the Bronze Cross and Silver Cross Courses are available to qualify individuals as Professional Lifeguards and join Sentosa Beach Patrol

Lifesavers who wish to obtain higher-level certifications can pursue options such as the Pool Lifeguard Award, Award of Merit, Distinction Award, Lifesaving Instructor, and even progress to the Lifesaving Teacher level.

Lifesaving Lifeguard Course

1. To be *Lifeguard*:
To obtain Lifesaving 123 & BM + SLSS CPR (Total Two Courses)
 
2. There are *Pool Guardian / Pool Assistant*:
To be minimum certified with Lifesaving 123
 
3. To be *Swimming Coach*
To obtain Lifesaving 123 (One Course) + External Swim Coach Course (Austswim, SSI STA Etc) & Standard First Aid CPR + AED.

Generally, Lifesaving 123 will take 4 sessions of three hours and online e-learning (Total 12 – 15 hours). Bronze Medallion will take 10 to 16 sessions of 1.5 hours to complete and ready for test (Total 15 – 25 hours). 

A: The SLSS Lifesaving Lifeguard Course does involve physical activities and swimming assessments, so a certain level of fitness is generally expected. In general, participants will need to be able to swim 100m using two recognized swimming strokes.
